Darren Criss was introduced tonight on Glee as the second gay character. Many speculate he may become Kurt’s boyfriend, but no one even knows for sure how long he will be on the show.
As to how he got cast, Darren says he auditioned with Ryan Murphy. It wasn’t his first time though. “I had gone out for the role of Finn before my senior year at the University of Michigan.
You always go out for things that you may not be right for. I’m not a football guy so I wasn’t heartbroken when I didn’t get it. It actually worked out just fine,” he tells The Wall Street Journal.
Darren is happy with his part as Blaine. “It’s a dream come true as an actor to get to play someone so complex. He’s an out-and-proud student who goes to an all-boys school, which is similar to the all-boys school I had gone to. When I got to the set I was like, “How did they know?””
In fact, Darren wanted the role so much he cut off his hair “I thought I’d probably have a better shot at [getting the part] if I cut my hair. I get pigeonholed into something with long hair, which I love, but it’s surfer-dude. This is more serious and preppy.”
