Debra Messing's Still Living With Her Husband! Here's Why -

Debra and Daniel - a classy couple even in the midst of a split

Although they’re not as close as they were when this old photo was taken, Debra Messing and her almost-ex-husband, Daniel Zelman, are about as amicable as a separated couple can be.

Not only are they not rushing to sign the final divorce papers – they’re still living in the same home!

In a civilized fashion that puts other estranged couples to shame (yeah, J. Lo/Marc Anthony, we’re looking at you), Debra and Daniel decided that their 7-year-old son, Roman, comes first in their lives, no matter what.

A rep for the couple tells Us Weekly, “In the short term they plan on continuing to live together with their son, then gradually transition into a new living situation. They have no immediate plans for divorce.”

The family moved to New York recently, where Debra films her new series, Smash. No word on whether Daniel will be joining them for Debra’s favorite Big Apple holiday activities – skating at Wollman Rink and tromping through the snow at Central Park – but it seems likely, since there’s no sign of bitter feelings between the two.

“The decision to separate was entirely mutual,” the rep tells the magazine. “They have been a couple for twenty years, and the nature of their relationship simply changed over time.”

With that, Debra and Daniel have joined the ranks of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, and other famous exes who have stayed friendly after their split for the sake of the kids.

Living with an estranged spouse may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if it works for Debra – and if it spares Roman the stress of having to split weekends between his parents – why not?
