Denise Richards sits down with Matt Lauer in this Today show video clip to promote her new book, “The Real Girl Next Door,” dishing on her family and how she’s handled Charlie Sheen’s very public meltdown.

First up, Lauer congratulates Denise Richards on the adoption of baby Eloise. Denise says the girls “are so excited and feel so blessed. They love feeding her and changing her. We’re very happy.”

Richards also discusses her relationship with Charlie Sheen and how she’s explained his behavior to the two daughters they have together, Sam and Lola. No easy task.

Richards explains shielding the girls from the news reports about Sheen, noting, “As far as the media, I shield them completely but there’s a few things they would hear, you know, through other kids, and there was a point where it – the recent stuff of everything that we all saw on the shows and all of that I did not discuss. But I did have to have a conversation with them about addiction and got a book to read to them because I was just lying to them so much and covering up and telling lies. It was just getting too confusing that I needed to sit down with them.”

Do they get it at their age? “I think it’s too early,” Denise shared, but they did comprehend some of the information and she told them enough to help them make sense of the situation.

Denise says she and Charlie are in a good place right now. Today, anyway.
