It all started rather innocently with an internet rumor that Drake had married Nicki Minaj that quickly swelled to an internet frenzy of marriage confirmations and denials. So is it true or is it all a publicity ruse by the couple who are both up for awards at next month’s MTV Video Music Awards?
Based on the response from their publicists, it appears the duo teamed up to stir up some new attention for Drake’s new video for the song Miss Me which debuted on MTV on August 19th. In the song Drake raps, “I love Nicki Minaj, I told her, I’d admit it; I hope one day we get married, just to say we [expletive] did it; And girl I’m [expletive] serious, I’m with it if you with it.”
Once the video started playing, it looks like Drake and Nicki decided to add fuel to the fire by playing a game of twitter tag about a possible announcement about their relationship.
Oops, they forgot to tell their reps who are trying to put an end to the shenanigans by denying that a wedding ever occurred. Based on Nicki’s recent tweets it doesn’t look like there has been time in her schedule for them to tie the knot!
As for publicity stunts, this one seems to have worked out alright for all involved racking in fresh attention for both stars just in time for the VMAS – Drakes’s nominated for Best Male Video and Best Hip Hop Video and Nicki is up for Best New Artist.
Do you think they really tied the knot or is it all just a publicity stunt?
