This time, she’s the Biggest Winner!
Jillian just brought home a new adopted daughter, 2-year-old Lukensia. Then, as if that weren’t joyful enough, her partner, Heidi Rhoades, gave birth on May 3 to their son, Phoenix.
Jillian first revealed her adoption plans back in December, when she announced that she would be leaving The Biggest Loser to focus on getting ready for a new arrival.
She explained at the time that she had completed all the paperwork for a child through a pilot adoption program in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but that the referral process might still be a few months down the road. (Reports are saying she brought Lukensia home from a Haiti orphanage, however.)
But while Jillian has given several interviews about the adoption, she never gave a hint that she was expecting a child at home.
Perhaps she was worried that the adoption process might be postponed or canceled if authorities knew she had another child on the way.
Or maybe she was protecting her partner’s privacy and this particular facet of her personal life. (Jillian has previously discussed her bisexuality, but sadly, prejudice still exists.)
Another possibility: Jillian might still be feeling the backlash over a comment she made to Women’s Health magazine two years ago about not wanting to get pregnant “because I couldn’t do that to my body.” Only later did she explain that she was actually embarrassed to confess that she has severe endometriosis and probably wouldn’t be able to have a baby of her own.
Whatever her reasons, the important thing is that she’s finally living her dream of being a mother. She tells People that she’s relishing every moment of parenthood and putting everything else aside to focus on her newborn and toddler. “I don’t even answer email,” she says. “I don’t have time to care about anything else.”
Congratulations times two to Jillian and Heidi!
