Elizabeth Edwards cancer has returned and the 61-year-old mother is gravely ill as family and friends have gathered with Edwards at her North Carolina home. The family issued a statement today that said “doctors have told her that further treatment for her cancer would be unproductive,” according to The Associated Press.
Elizabeth posted a message on her Facebook page to those who have supported and inspired her.
“The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren’t able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It’s called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful.”
According to sources close to the family, Elizabeth Edwards only has weeks to live. Edwards separated from her husband John after he admitted to an extramarital affair and fathering a child with a campaign TV producer. Elizabeth was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004.

She will leave behind friends and family who will miss this dear lady. She has not shame only a well meaning. My sympathy to her children and those she presently loves deeply.
Peace be with you, may God hold you in the palm of his hand during this very trying time, I will pray for you and all of your family, you will be missed
May there be comfort in knowing that your indomitable spirit has been an inspiration to so many you have never met. Your class in facing adversity when you should have met with love and reassurance only fortifies our high opinion of you. Know in your heart that there are those whom you have never met that pray for you in Christian love. Go gently into the night and know that there is hope, peace and love at the other side.
Elizabeth, yes, you are a wondrful and strong when you need to be woman. I wonder if anyone just says to you: Elizabeth, I am so sorry for the hell you have had to endure, and God, I know through my own life how hard it has been, and what is happenening really SUCKS! I love you and will continue to pray for you through it all….Colleen
