The popular HBO drama Boardwalk Empire has its first season finale, episode 12 on Sunday night.
In the episode “A Return to Normalcy”, some major loose ends were tied up, most notably the war between Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, played by Steve Buchemi, and Arnold Rothstein, Luciano and the D’Alessios.
But it seems another major war is brewing as a new unholy alliance looks to challenge Nucky for power.
While the final episode brought no major changes to the power structure on the Boardwalk, we’ll have to see just how Nucky will deal with a more homegrown insurrection next season.
While Nucky’s personal life is back to (somewhat) normal, with Jimmy seemingly on his side and Margaret hestitantly by his side, the series is clearly setting up some major foes for Season 2.
“A Return to Normalcy” was penned by Boardwalk Empire series creator/show runner Terence Winter, Emmy-award winning writer and producer of the hit series, The Sopranos.
The series was created by Emmy-winning Sopranos writer Terrence Winter and is produced by Hollywood deity Martin Scorsese, who also directed the first episode. HBO has already announced it will order a second season.
If you haven’t watched before, Boardwalk Empire follows the rise of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, a character loosely based on Enoch Johnson, the bootlegger and mobster who ran Atlantic City during Prohibition.
