Most women go into the hospital with a definite birth plan in their heads to deliver their children, but often times their original plans get altered in one way or another. I have heard of plenty of women who have the full intention of giving birth naturally, but once the reality of just how bad the pain is sets in, they ultimately decide to have some assistance from an epidural or other pain relieving method.
Personally, I am a huge epidural supporter and could not have imagined giving birth without it, which I am sure will have a number of women judging me for my choice. However, I would never dispute anyone’s birth plan or method of delivery. That’s their business, as all women are different and are free to have their own opinions.
Evangeline Lilly just became a mom to a son in May, and she fully insisted on having a natural birth no matter what went down. She told Jay Leno, “I actually skipped the hospital … We decided to have the baby at home because we wanted it to be a natural birth, and it turns out that it was 30 hours of natural.”
Lilly also added that her birth consisted of, “Eight hours of pushing, that’s the part that men don’t understand. Women go, Oh, dear, oh, dear God, eight hours of pushing?’ And the men are like, Okay, eight hours of pushing.'”
Evangeline was able to get through her long labor with the help of a midwife and a birthing assistant.
So far, Lilly seems to be settling into motherhood nicely, and even has four movies in the works coming up. Having a baby definitely hasn’t slowed her down one bit!
