Fall TV Tumbles in with the Premiere of Hellcats, Ashley Tisdale Cheers Her Way to College

The Fall TV premieres get off with a cheer tonight as the new college cheerleading drama Hellcats debuts on The CW.

The show features Disney alumnae Ashley Tisdale trying to put her High School Musical years behind her in a college oriented show that has her dancing and prancing around in cheerleading gear.

So what can you expect from Hellcats?

The premise is pretty simple…. girl heads to college…. girl loses scholarship…. girl turns to cheerleading to make all of her dreams come true.

The show stars with college freshman Marti Perkins (played by Aly Michalka) heads to college in full rebel costume – basically a pretty girl dressed down in dark drabby clothes with a bit of black eyeliner.   Armed with a pre-law scholarship, Marti is ready to face whatever the college world hands her…..  Until…. wait for it….. she loses her scholarship….

Enter the Hellcats, a cheerleading dance squad at the Memphis college, fronted by cheer captain Savannah (played by Disney’s Ashley Tisdale).    Marti needs a schloarship, the Hellcats need her funky dancing style…. It’s a match made in CW TV teen heaven.

It’s a little bit of 90210 coupled with a little bit of Bring It On resulting in a whole lot of booty shaking dance routines, a lot of flips and jumps, and some girly college bonding that appeals directly to the CW audience.    The fact that it has been matched with America’s Next Model should help it build a solid audience with the younger teen audience.

Look for Hellcats to premiere tonight at 8 / 7 CST on the CW.

Which shows are you looking forward to in the new TV season?
