In case you were watching Conan, David Letterman made a few off-color jokes about Bristol Palin this week while the family was in NYC. In response, Todd and Sarah released a statement, basically calling Letterman a pervert. Letterman’s mistake: he thought 18 year-old Bristol was in attendance, rather than under-aged 14 year-old Willow. Oops.
The Late Show host (and/or his writers) goofed up and made jokes about Sarah’s daughter getting knocked up by A-Rod, and getting hit on by Eliot Spitzer. Jokes that would have been racy if they were directed at Bristol, but way below the belt when referring to a 14 year-old.
Watch Letterman Respond:
Still, Sarah and Todd’s response to the joke are pretty comical and stereotypically reactionary:
“Acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others…”
“Any ‘jokes’ about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it, and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too.”
“Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is … disgusting.”
