Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker has died in a car crash on Saturday afternoon, according to reports. The 40-year-0ld Hollywood star was in a Porsche when the car crashed into either a tree or a pole before it burst into flames. Several reports indicate that he was the passenger in the car.
His rep issued the following statement:
“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives.
We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences.”
“This is an ongoing investigation,” Deputy Heischuber of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station tells People magazine. “There are deputies on the scene now. A solo car crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. in the city of Santa Clarita, on the outskirts of Valencia. A 911 call came in from a bystander.”
A tweet from Walker’s verified account reads: “It’s with a heavy heart that we must confirm Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident.”
Paul is survived by his 15-year-old daughter Meadow, who is said to have just moved in with him after having lived with her mother Rebecca in Hawaii earlier.
