Five Things about Miss Universe 2010 Winner, Mexico's Jimena Navarrete


And the winner is… Miss Mexico!

Jimena Navarrete was crowned winner of Miss Universe 2010 last night.

She beat out first runner-up Miss Jamaica’s Yendi Phillipps and second runner-up Miss Australia’s Jesinta Campbell.

The second Mexican Miss Universe ever, Navarrete replaces the 2009 winner, Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela. Miss USA, Rima Fakih, did not make the top 15 finalists.

Here are five things we know about the Mexican beauty:

~ Jimena Navarrete Rosete was born on February 22, 1988. She’s 22 and is 5’8″.

~ Born and raised in Guadalajara, Jimena studied nutrition prior to her participation in beauty pageants.  She’s been modeling for 15 years.

~ She was crowned title winner of her state in Mexico, Nuestra Belleza Jalisco in Guadalajara, Jalisco, on July 16, 2009.

~ After winning her state pageant, she competed against thirty-three other contestants in Miss Mexico, or Nuestra Belleza México 2009, where she won first place.

~ Jimena, who says she plans to study nutritional science, is expected to spend her year as Miss Universe drawing attention to the plight of people with HIV/AIDS and breast cancer.
