If you ask us, three months is still not enough.
Fox News Anchor Megyn Kelly let it rip on live television today as she defended herself against comments made by radio host and political commentator Mike Gallagher on her three-month maternity leave.
Mike, ever the gentleman, chided Megyn earlier this summer for taking three months off after the birth of her daughter, Yardley Evans, back in April calling it a “vacation” and “racket.”
Comparing maternity leave to a vacation? Seriously?
An outraged Megyn shot back at Mike for his previous attacks on her time off today, calling it “a moronic thing to say.”
She also went as far as giving Mike the cold-hard facts when it comes to the country’s maternity leave policy, explaining, “The United States is the only advanced country in the world that doesn’t require paid leave. If anything, the United States is in the dark ages when it comes to maternity leave.”
“And what is it about getting pregnant and carrying a baby for nine months, that you don’t think deserves a few months off so bonding and recovery can take place?”
A clearly baffled Mike had no response, and in a failed attempt to poke humor at the situation, responded, “I was drinking that day.”
We think Megyn might be on to something when it comes to the short length of time and unpaid weeks working American mothers have to deal with when it comes to our maternity leaves.
Tell us your thoughts on the issue. Do you agree with Megyn?
