Geraldine Doyle, whose face we all recognize, but whose name few of us knew, has passed away.
Already, there is a Rosie the Riveter/World War II Homefront National Historical Park in Richmond, which honors the homefront effort during the war: women and minorities joined the workforce. Building military equipment and ships were two of the jobs in Richmond.
There is already a Rosie the Riveter monument in the park, along with the SS Red Oak Victory, and the Ford Assembly Plant.
But, the park does not yet have a visitor center. There is a 70 year-old oil house that can be used for the Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center. However, it needs to be renovated. Parties involved had to agree on how to pay for those renovations.
It’s possible that the visitor center could open next fall.
