This has been quite a year for Teen Mom 2 star Leah Calvert (nee Messer). Although it got off to a rough start, things improved dramatically from there. She and fiance Jeremy Calvert grew closer than ever, culminating in their joyous wedding (so nice, they did it twice!). Now they’re making a happy home for themselves and Leah’s daughters, Aliannah and Aleeah.
Last night, however, Leah posted a video of something way more exciting and wonderful than their country wedding, their beach honeymoon or even their new puppy. Little Ali, born with developmental issues including curvature of the legs, is taking her first real steps!
Ali, who with Aleeah will be 3 in December, began to try walking independently a few days ago, and now she’s making amazing progress.
The video shows her leaving her stepdad’s arms and walking – a little unsteady, but determined – toward her delighted mom. They cheer as she reaches Leah’s lap.
Congratulatory messages came thick and fast on Leah’s Twitter account. One of them came from Jeff Simms, the girls’ paternal grandfather. “I am sitting here crying after watching a video of Aliannah taking some steps. I cannot find words to describe how I feel.
Dad Corey Simms echoed, “I am so proud of my Ali girl! I love her so much!”
Other Teen Mom castmates and their loved ones are thrilled at the news, too. Chelsea Houska tweeted, “YAY girl! I’m sooooo happy! that is amazing xoxxx” Her dad, Randy Houska, added, “and now she will go like hell.” Javi Marroquin, boyfriend of BFF Kailyn Lowry, said, “couldn’t be more happy for you and my dude JC !!! 2 of the greatest people I know!
And Leah herself says, “Ali is tickled pink and now she knows she can do it so she wants to continue to walk. Being a mom is the best thing god has made me!
Any mom of a child with special needs will tell you that the milestones of these children are all the more precious because of the tremendous amounts of hard work and love that go into reaching them. And you don’t have to be a fan of the Teen Mom series to rejoice at this wonderful development.
Congratulations, Leah! Way to go, Ali!
