Her son isn’t scheduled to arrive until late next month, but already Giuliana Rancic has figured out how she’ll stay in shape even as a tired new mom.
She recently told RadarOnline.com, “I usually work out in the morning, but I know I’m never going to want to go to the gym before work because I’m not going to want to leave the baby. So I’m going to put in the new DVDs called Exhilarate and I have the maraca sticks – they’re like giant rattles – and I’ll put the baby in a chair and he can watch. So while I’m dancing around for an hour, I think he’ll be totally entertained and he’ll like it!”
The E!News host adds that she’s recently become a fan of Zumba classes – “It’s like going to a club; I’m not bored to death” – and plans to continue the total-body workout at home so she can stay in shape.
Of course, she has a small advantage in that area. She and husband Bill Rancic are having their baby boy via gestational surrogate after many months of infertility struggles, as well as her recent double mastectomy and reconstruction to treat breast cancer. So she’s not aiming to lose pregnancy weight, but to stay healthy and strong so that she can be the best mother she can be for her child. (Exercise has been shown to have benefits against breast cancer recurrence, too.)Will Daddy be joining Mom as she works up a sweat dancing in front of the baby bouncer?
“I’ll try to get Bill involved,” Giuliana says. “I don’t think Bill is ready to do a class, but in the privacy of our own home he could do the DVDs with me.” She confesses that her sweetheart “doesn’t have a great amount of rhythm, God love him,” but that Zumba is effective for both dancers and nondancers alike.
Just a word of caution, Giuliana: Babies have a way of cutting into even the most organized mom’s schedule. Don’t be surprised if Little Junior Rancic gets a notion to start fussing or deposit an eye-watering load into his diaper while you’re right in the middle of an intense home workout.
