Gobble Gossip: How Celeb Families Celebrate Thanksgiving

Ah, Thanksgiving … There’s nothing we love more than waking up to the sounds of the Macy’s parade passing through Herald Square as a delish turkey (or fresh Tofurkey) roasts in the oven. But as we prepare for a day in the kitchen, we can’t help but wonder, will the rich and fab also be spending their afternoons over a hot stove, keeping crazy great-uncle Todd quiet with mixed drinks, or protecting Gram’s antique china from fussy, overdressed children?

Surprisingly, many of our fave celebs opt out of posh, catered celebrations to enjoy hearty Thanksgivings at home. Get the details on which celebs keep their holiday low-key and local and which families prefer to just get away for the weekend, after the jump! — Rebecca Bohanan

Kirk Douglas and his wife, Anne, have been volunteer servers for the Los Angeles Mission's Thanksgiving meal for 75 years. Douglas, 94, will be hosting this year's event. We wonder if son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, will join at the mission, now that Michael has thankfully recovered from cancer.

Jen said that she does all her own cooking for the holidays, which includes her grandma's famous sweet potato casserole. We hope she'll enlist some help in the kitchen this year though, since she's currently pregnant with her third child!

Angelina and family will most likely be opting out of celebrating this Thanksgiving. The mother of six told PopEater she views the holiday as celebrating cultural domination, and she isn't comfortable with it. We hope she and the rest of the Jolie-Pitt clan will have a nice day together regardless of what they're celebrating or not celebrating.

In past years Hilary has performed in the Macy's Day Thanksgiving parade and traveled the country, but with baby on the way this year, you'd think Hil would be planing to kick back and relax. Not so! Hilary will be preparing Thanksgiving dinner for her whole family, and is actually pretty nervous. She recently tweeted a photo of a practice turkey she prepared this week. Don't worry, Hillary — we're sure it will taste delish!

One of Hollywood's most well-known vegans, Alicia recently shared the menu that she cooked for family and friends for last year's animal-free Thanksgiving feast. The star has also recently taken to Twitter to encourage folks to try the Adopt-a-Turkey Project and feed the birds instead of using the birds as food.

Hollywood's most hilarious mother of two will be pulling a Liz Lemon on Thanksgiving. Tina has told Good Housekeeping that her dream holiday consists of kicking back and eating her husband's cornbread stuffing. We want to go to there.

Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, and Al Roker will be waking up early on Thanksgiving — to work! The cast of the Today Show must put in their time hosting the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade before they can head home to their families. This year's parade includes new balloons like Sonic the Hedgehog and musical acts Cee Lo Green, Scotty McCreery, the cast of the Muppets, and more (but we know you're only watching for Al Roker).

Another feature of this year's Macy's Parade is the legendary Diamond. Neil will be preforming on South Dakota's float, next to a model of Mt. Rushmore. We're hoping to hear "Cherry, Cherry" with Washington and Lincoln on backup!
