The Golden Globe Nominations 2011 are in, and despite a huge flop at the box office last weekend, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp managed to score Golden Globe nominations for The Tourist.
Angelina Jolie is up for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes 2011, and Johnny Depp received the same Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actor category.
If Angie and Johnny’s Golden Globe nominations weren’t surprising enough, The Tourist was also nominated for Best Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy.
Question: How on earth did Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, and The Tourist receive Golden Globe nominations when the movie probably didn’t even gross enough revenue on its opening weekend to pay Johnny Depp’s salary for the film?
Are the Golden Globes 2011 nothing but a popularity contest?

Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp DESERVE the nomination as does the picture. Because critics who are generally clueless don’t agree – is testament to the fact they deserve it. The tourist and its stars rock.
I saw the movie. Not bad, but nothing special either. Johnny Depp’s performance was flat. Angelina’s was better. Nothing worth getting nominated for any awards.
