Golden Globes 2011: Why Are Terrible Movies Like The Tourist Nominated?

The biggest mystery about the Golden Globes year in and year out is how such stinkin’ terrible movies often get nominated! Now we know it’s the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and not actual industry people doing the nominated, but really — did you see “The Tourist?” Was it not one of the worst movies of the year? My husband and I blew a rare date night on this mess, and I admit I’m still bitter.

Why in the world was “The Tourist” nominated for not one, not two, but three Golden Globes (including nods for Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp and best film)? And it’s hardly the only bad movie that’s gotten recognition over the years.

Only apparent reason for “Burlesque” to get a nod is that it may be funny to watch Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais make fun of it.

And the HFPA was apparently the only critical organization to find redeeming value in “Nine,” last year’s musical bomb that received a ridiculous number of nominations.

My one hope for tonight is that “The Tourist” is not among the Golden Globes winners. Which Golden Globe nominations did you find complete ridiculous this year and past years?
