Will Ricky Gervais be invited back to host next year’s Golden Globes? Odd are the Hollywood Foreign Press Association might go with a safer choice next year. Why?
The President of HFPA told the Hollywood Reporter that Ricky Gervais “definitely crossed the line,” he said. “And some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that’s Ricky.”
And they apparently were not stoked about Ricky singling out and stars. “Any of the references to individuals is certainly not something the Hollywood Foreign Press condones,” he said. And they didn’t have a warning that Ricky was going to do this. When he presented them with his script for the show he gave blank pages!
HFPA issued a statement saying: “We loved the show. It was a lot of fun and obviously has a lot of people talking. When you hire a comedian like Ricky Gervais, one expects in your face, sometimes outrageous material,” the statement read. “Certainly, in this case, he pushed the envelope and occasionally went too far. The HFPA would never condone some of his personal remarks. Overall, however, the show was among the best we’ve ever had and we were pleased.”
So will Ricky Gervais be invited back to host for a third year? He told USA Today, “I probably won’t be here next year.”
What do you think? Did he go too far?
