Great Wolf Lodge CEO Kim Schaefer: How Undercover Boss Brought Her Closer To Her KidsToniFitz76
Great Wolf Lodge’s Kim Schaefer, the CEO of parent company Great Wolf Resorts, appeared on “Undercover Boss” last night, the first time a woman has been featured on the CBS show about a boss who goes incognito at the lowest levels of his or her company to see what’s going right and what’s going wrong.
If you’ve never heard of Great Wolf, it’s a pretty awesome concept: An indoor waterpark with a dozen locations across the U.S. Schaefer is first placed as a guide for the kids’ club, where she almost blows her cover as a stay-at-home mom when a fellow guide observes Schaefer can’t cook! The fellow guide, Bree, also laments that her daughter is going to college soon, and she’s not sure how the family will afford it because her husband just got laid off.
Schaefer also meets Jackie, a check-in clerk who is also a single mom who does not get enough time with her kids; this echoes to Schaefer, who works long hours as a CEO while her husband stays home with their children.
Schaefer also works in the restaurant at one lodge and hears from Deanna, who lost her young daughter in a car accident 11 years ago. Schaefer feels ready to get home now and tell her own kids how much she loves and appreciates them.
And at the end of the episode, after she helps the people who impress her the most, Schaefer has one more surprise: She’s paying for Bree’s daughter to go to college awww!
