'Hangover' Star Ken Jeong Talks Career & FamilyChris Rogers
Ken Jeong, star of The Hangover Part II, opens up to Redbook magazine about his career, family, and marriage in the June issue, now on newsstands.
Here is an excerpt from the interview:
I owe everything to my woman.
My wife, Tran, encouraged me to quit my job as a doctor [of internal medicine] at 36 and pursue acting full-time. I had just finished filming Knocked Up, and it was life-changing. But I didn’t have the courage to go for it until she persuaded me. Medicine is a hard-won skill, and acting can be a fickle profession, so I tried to be realistic. Now, I’m a spoiled actor. I get weekends off and hiatus weeks — time I never got as a doctor.
My wife has final script approval.
I run everything by Tran, including the scene I did in The Hangover [Ken jumped out of a car trunk butt naked]. She’s never cringed. It’s rare to have a wife who is that secure about her husband doing outrageous things. But having her support makes me more confident and creative at work. I know that no matter what I do, she’ll love me just the same.
Ken: Behind the Scenes
“For Father’s Day, I’m expecting homemade cards from my girls,” says Ken. (These hearts are two recent masterpieces.) “And I hope they give me a massage. They walk up and down my back.”
“When Ken gets home from a day on set, he’s right back to daddy duty — doing dishes and taking out the trash,” Tran says. “He can’t be a movie star.”
