Time to blow out 48 candles!
Eight years ago today, the Gosselin sextuplets – Alexis Faith, Hannah Joy, Aaden Jonathan, Collin Thomas, Leah Hope and Joel Kevin were born, launching mom and dad Kate and Jon into a new adventure in parenthood and in reality TV.
The show, along with Jon and Kate’s marriage, is history now, but the kids are still thriving and as cute as ever, as are their older twin sisters, Mady and Cara.
Last night, Kate tweeted, “Celebrating 6 birthdays tomorrow…whew! But I can guarantee you it won’t be as exhausting as tomorrow was 8 years ago!”
Though the sextuplets’ past birthdays were spent with cameras rolling and millions watching, this year will be much more low-key. Kate tweeted that the day will include “Birthday cake, birthday treats for school, birthday wrapping, special birthday dinner & birthday decorating X6!”
…or will it?
This morning found Kate a little less prepared for her children’s big day than she might have hoped.
“Agh! Of all days to run out of baking powder!!!” she announced on Twitter. “For heavens sake…I’m under the gun now…to channel Betty Crocker and get it done! :)”
Hopefully, she was able to run to the market and get what she needed for her birthday goodies.
Both Kate and her children have come a long way since her youngest six children, conceived through IVF, were born prematurely. An extended stay in the hospital was followed by a huge homecoming as the excited but tired parents mastered the art of feeding, diapering and entertaining their suddenly-expanded household. Kate confesses that giving birth to six at a time left her “grouchier than even I could stand, lol!”
But it’s all been worth it, of course. Kate says, “Celebrating this birthday always makes me cry…tears of special memories & joy! I got a healthy ‘full set’ – I know I’m unbelievably blessed!”
Happy happy happy happy happy happy birthday, kids!
