Happy Grandparents Day 2010! 5 Celebrity Grandparents We AdoreEmma Brady
Happy Grandparents Day 2010 to all the dedicated grandmas and grandpas out there!
Today is the 32nd annual National Grandparents Day. It’s the day we can thank all those dedicated grandparents for standing up to offer a helping hand in raising our children. Whether they offer a friendly piece of parenting advice or a week of free babysitting, many of us just couldn’t do it all without your invaluable help.
Hollywood may celebrate youth, but some of our favorite celebrities just happen to be grandparents too.
Here’s our look at some of Hollywood’s most fabulous grandparents.
Goldie Hawn. She may have started out as the pretty girl from the 1960s hit show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, but the Oscar winner has aged into one of Hollywood’s hottest grandmothers. At 64, Goldie has a trio of adorable grandsons – Ryder Russell Robinson, 6, from her daughter Kate, and Wilder Brooks Hudson, 3, and Bodhi Hawn Hudson, 5 months from her son Oliver Hudson. Hawn is relishing in her role as grandma, she says, “Being a grandmother is amazing, I love it. It brings unbelievable joy.”
Steven Tyler. How cool is it to have a rock star for a grandpa? At 62, Tyler is still hitting the stage with Aerosmith and is rumored to be taking over Simon’s chair at American Idol. The father of four has one grandson – Milo, 5, from his daughter actress Liv Tyler. Of Milo he told the New York Post, “He calls me Papa Steven. Milo is the sweetest, most beautiful thing.”
Blythe Danner. Blythe Danner is the picture of the refined grandmother. The 67-year-old Danner has found the role of a lifetime in being grandma to her two grandchildren – Apple Blythe Alison Martin, 6, and Moses Bruce Anthony Martin, 4, by daughter Gwyneth Paltrow. Of being a grandmother, Danner told Ladies’ Home Journal, “[Friends] would say, ‘It’s a love you can’t describe,’ and they were right! It’s immense! The role of grandparent is great fun and joy. The primal urge and thrust that another generation brings keeps us wanting to live. Being a grandparent is bigger than I ever imagined.”
Harrison Ford. He may be a newlywed with wife Calista Flockhart, but the Star Warsstar has three grandchildren! At 68 Ford, who has four children from two previous marriages and is stepfather to Flockhart’s son Liam, has three grandkids – Eliel, 17, Giuliana, 13, and Ethan, 10. Ford admits that he takes great pride in being a grandfather telling USA Today, “They know me as Grandpa first. They know the reality of the business I’m in…. They knew Chewbacca was a fiction.”
Sir Paul McCartney. He may be an iconic rock star and will live forever as a Beatle in our hearts, but Paul McCartney prides himself in being a devoted father and grandfather. McCartney, 68, has six grandchildren (and another on the way), three from daughter Mary and three from daughter Stella, the noted fashion designer who is expecting her fourth child.
