Some of Hollywood’s hottest moms and dads along with their families attended the 2nd Annual Santa’s Secret Workshop presented by Bill Horn and Scout Masterson at the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood, CA.
Among those who joined in on the fun were these celebrities: Tiffani Thiessen, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott, Jackson Rathbone from The Twilight Saga, Jason & Molly Mesnick, Gilles Marini, Angela Bassett, David Boreanaz, Sarah Drew, Kaitlin Olson & Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Ian Ziering, Marshall Allman from True Blood, Courtney B. Vance of Revenge, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Lindsay Sloane and Brianna & Ryan Culberson from The Real Housewives of OC!
I was invited along with my family to enjoy this AMAZING party that kicked off Hollywood’s holiday season. In the giving spirit of the holidays, we were all asked to donate diapers to L.A. Family Housing.
I just had to get the scoop from Bill and Scout AKA The GUNCLES all about their holiday party and what they hope Simone will learn about giving to others!
Tell us how you got involved with L.A. Family Housing: When Simone was born so many amazing people sent her gifts. Too many gifts in fact. Suddenly the house was filled with two of everything: two strollers, two high chairs, etc. We wanted to make sure that these items we weren’t using would go to good use. After doing a little research online, we found L.A. Family Housing. We were instantly drawn to their program and living facility for families — a way for those in need to work their way out of homelessness. After a tour of the facility with Simone, we knew we had to help any way we could. Since then, we’ve also discovered Baby Buggy and became involved in their important efforts. We were thrilled when earlier this year we were able to introduce LAFH to Baby Buggy. Now LAFH is a recipient of products collected by Baby Buggy in the L.A. area.
How do you teach Simone about giving back: We both believe strongly that as parents we need to lead by example. This is especially true with giving back. We try to involve her in every charitable event we attend. The great thing about working with children’s charities is it usually means kids are welcome at most events. And when we need to leave the house for a Baby Buggy meeting, we make sure that she knows where we’re going and why.
Tell us what you hope comes out of this day of giving: We hope two important things come from Santa’s Secret Workshop. First, we hope the guests at the event will have a great time in celebration of the holidays, will learn more about the charity and get involved on an ongoing basis. We also are thrilled that so many of the participating sponsors of the event donate product to LAFH. For example, Stokke just donated $2,000.00 worth of diapers, Mom.me made a sizable donation of Johnson & Johnson products, and Joovy is arranging to send product directly to a LAFM facility, among others.
What is the most exciting thing about being a parent? Every day Simone says or does something new and the simplest things — a poop in the potty or an “I love you” — will make our day.
What is the scariest thing about being a parent: Keeping Simone safe is the scariest part of being a parent. You realize quickly how fearless little kids are and how fearful you become as a parent. Watching the news or reading a newspaper is a constant reminder that no kid is 100% safe at any given time.
OK, just for fun… tell us your favorite story of the year about Simone: Simone at Halloween is an amazing memory. She embraced every part of the holiday — the costumes, the candy, trick-or-treating. She loved dressing up as a strawberry, Wonder Woman and then as a white bunny. She is a fearless, fun loving little girl. We just love that about her.
