Ray Wise certainly knows when to swoop in and take a role. Just two weeks ago, the actor was added to the cast the X-Men prequel. Now, Wise will replace Eric Braeden as Robin’s Dad in How I Met Your Mother.
Braeden, who previously played Robin Scherbatsky Sr. in a 2008 episode, apparently wasn’t pleased with the material for his second go around. And Neil Patrick Harris let him have it via Twitter.
“Eric Braeden is a D-Bag,” writes Harris on Dec. 17. “The actor, (Robin’s dad) agreed to a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn’t ‘substantial’ enough.”
Lucky enough, similar looking and more familiar Wise stepped in to take the role on. When a door closes for one, one opens for another.
“We’ve recast with Ray Wise, a fantastic actor who makes any part ‘substantial’,” Harris also tweets. “Super excited to welcome him to the family!”
I’ve never seen the show, but all of this drama is tempting me to set it up on my Tivo.
What do you make of this whole mess?
