One of the great perks that come with motherhood? You get a whole day devoted just to you. Gifts, time off, maybe even a meal out, and all the kisses your face can hold. Not a bad deal.
And when you have a whole flock of children in the house, that just increases the amount of love you get. Also not a bad deal.
So Kate Gosselin has a lot to look forward to this Sunday, especially now that her children (Mady, Cara, Aaden, Collin, Joel, Alexis, Hannah and Leah, lest you’ve forgotten) are old enough to treat their mom to a special Mother’s Day. She outlines the family’s plans on her new blog post for Coupon Cabin today.
First on the day’s agenda: breakfast in bed!
“My two 12-year-olds and six almost-8-year-olds have been plotting and planning for weeks already about what to make me for breakfast,” Kate writes. “Mady has even asked me for a list of foods I will eat, knowing how routine and ‘boring’ my food choices can be to them!” Her picks: a whole-grain cereal medley or a veggie egg-white omelet, with coffee brewed by the older girls.
After church services, the day will be low-key – the young Gosselins might even let their mom take a nap! As for gifts, the children typically make cards with loving messages, and sometimes coupons good for treats like a back massage for stressful days.
Kate looks forward to a time a few years down the road when Mother’s Day will be more like a girls’ day out. “I envision a spa day for all six girls or even a pedicure where we are all side by side in chairs, chatting and laughing and spending time together,” she says. “Maybe we can leave the boys home to make us dinner? Or not…LOL! Pizza, anyone?”
(Better return the favor for the boys on Father’s Day, Kate!)
She concludes by wishing all the moms out there a happy Mother’s Day: “You are not only caring for your own children, but you are also educating and forming the future citizens of our world – and you have just one shot to do it right!” she reminds readers. “For all of your tireless efforts, take the day off on Mother’s Day…you deserve it!”
Amen to that.
