The popular British quote “Keep Calm and Carry On” (a slogan created during World War II) must be the mantra of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, these days. It’s not easy being married to the second in line to the throne – especially now that her first wedding anniversary to Prince William has passed. The honeymoon period is over, and now she’s expected to do her royal duty and keep the bloodline going.
In other words, the bump watch is on!
At least one tabloid is going out on a limb and saying it’s already a done deal. In Touch Weekly‘s cover story this week says that the former Kate Middleton is definitely pregnant.
As evidence, they present some recent photos that appear to show a little extra roundness around her middle. A source who saw her says that it seemed to be a trick of her dress draping at first, “but if you looked closely, it was a definite bump. It was prominent enough to cast a shadow below.”
The other clues the tab presents are Kate’s increased “roundness” in her face and rear and sightings of gray roots that would indicate she’s giving up fetus-unfriendly hair dye. (Could that be the reason she wears so many fascinators?)
How seriously should we take the story? Not very. So far, In Touch is the only mag making the announcement. And while their cover pic is vaguely convincing, other more recent photos – like the one here – show little or no sign of an heir apparent.
Still, our gossip appetite being what it is, Kate can expect to hear more rumors like this in the coming months. And for that, you have to pity her.
It’s hard enough that she’s not just a public figure, but a royal one at that. Other celebrities can get away with indiscretions like drunken girls’ nights, rudeness and salty language. The Duchess? She has to watch her behavior every minute or risk the disapproval of the world – and worse. (Would you want to have to answer to a grandmother-in-law who wears the British crown?) Her late mother-in-law, Diana, could have taught her a thing or two.
Now she’s got to deal with the pressure to have a baby as soon as possible. Even though her husband just gave an interview saying they definitely want a family (as does his little brother, Prince Harry), that won’t hold the royal-watchers for long.
Ironically, all the prying and whispers could get in the way of their plans; stress can make it difficult for a woman to conceive. Trying to speed up the process by scheduling sex during fertile days isn’t the most romantic thing in the world, either. At a time when Kate should be enjoying her youth and her marriage, she’s dealing with some major buzz-killage.
No wonder all those princess fairy tales end right after the wedding.
We’ll keep watching for more news about the Prince and Duchess. It would be lovely to see them welcome a child together…whenever it happens.
