The world of Katie Holmes seems to be changing – and opening up – with every passing minute.
An unconfirmed rumor from WWD says that the ex-Mrs. Cruise is about to become the first-ever face of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. No comment yet from Katie’s reps or the makeup powerhouse, but this seems to have the ring of truth.
If true, this would mark yet another milestone in her post-divorce life. So far, ever since leaving one of the most powerful marriages in Hollywood, Katie has taken on new movie projects, a Broadway show opening this fall and a clothing line, Holmes & Yang, hitting the runway at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week this weekend.
Katie’s polished-but-unpretentious look would make her an ideal spokesmodel for the company, which also prides itself on bringing out natural beauty.
But all these developments have a much bigger meaning for Katie as a mom.
Daughters look to their mothers or mother figures for inspiration and information on how to live and define themselves as women. Suri is still young, and she’s still working through her feelings about her parents’ divorce, but don’t think for a minute that she’s not absorbing her mom’s example.
When she’s a little older, she’ll come to realize that her mother left the security of being a quiet, dutiful wife in order to forge a separate identity and pursue her own dreams. She left a life that was no longer working for her – whether or not it had anything to do with Tom’s religion – to find one that would.
Suri will also see that you don’t have to limit yourself to just one dream. She can be an actress and a designer, like her mom. Or a writer and a director. Or a rocket scientist who helps rescue abandoned pets. Or even a First Lady who helps families improve their lives through healthy eating and exercise.
She might even find it kind of neat that her mother is now being held up as a prime example of how to be beautiful without looking overly made-up or artificial.
No, Katie may not be homeschooling her child any more, but she’s still teaching her some valuable lessons.
