Teen Mom 2 indeed!
The gossip sites are abuzz this morning over In Touch‘s cover story claiming that original Teen Mom cast member Catelynn Lowell is expecting her second baby with Tyler Baltierra.
The tab quotes Catelynn’s friend Jamie Pyrzewski as confirming that the young mom shared the news with her and a small circle of close family members last month. “We were both quiet,” she says. “I asked her how she felt about it. She said she was nervous and scared.”
But this pregnancy will reportedly be different from her first. Three years ago, at 17, Catelynn made the difficult decision to give up her daughter, Carly, for adoption. According to the tab, she and Tyler want to raise this new baby themselves.
“This time, she knew immediately that she wanted to keep the baby,” says another (anonymous) source. “She’s just so happy.”
Of course, the story is still a rumor at this point, since the couple haven’t personally confirmed it. But if it’s true, then the young reality mom could be sending some confusing messages to her multitude of fans.
Catelynn is widely regarded as being one of the Teen Mom success stories. Unlike some of the other cast members, who have struggled with such problems as substance abuse, custody battles and breakups with new boyfriends, she has stayed focused on her goal of finishing school and pursuing a career in counseling. She and Tyler are engaged and reportedly planning a summer 2013 wedding.
But here’s the thing: Catelynn has made it her mission to educate other teens about unplanned pregnancy and the options available to them (with a strong emphasis on adoption). She and Tyler are spokespersons for Bethany Christian Services, a faith-based organization that helped facilitate their adoption, and they’ve been traveling to college campuses to discuss teen pregnancy.
The underlying message, of course, is that this young woman has found it easier to pursue her dreams and live a stable life because she doesn’t have the added responsibilities of a baby.
It might be a little harder for her to get that message across at her next speaking engagement if she’s wearing a maternity dress.
Will she be able to explain to her student audiences, Twitter followers and MTV interviewers why she’s now ready to be a mom at 20 – even though she hasn’t finished college and isn’t yet officially Mrs. Baltierra? And will she be able to juggle classes, lectures and wedding planning with an infant in tow?
Or is this just another phony issue-selling ploy that will soon go the way of all the Jen and Angie pregnancy rumors?
For now, Catelynn isn’t saying.
What do you think? Is this former Teen Mom ready to be, um, a young-adult mom?
