A report from the new issue of Star magazine (as reported here by Celebitchy) claims that Tom Cruise is making plans to buy up some prime property on a quiet Hawaiian island for himself and his family.
The decision was reportedly made last month when the actor visited a friend who lives there. “Tom was just blown away by Lanai and right on the spot decided to buy property there,” says an unnamed (naturally) source. “He wants to make it his own tropical paradise, to share with Suri and his other children.”
The story goes on to say that Tom looked at a couple of $4 million estates with an eye to buying both, leveling the houses and creating his own megamansion – possibly buying up and adding a few more lots to the tune of more than $24 million total.
What’s implied, of course, is that Tom is once again trying to be Awesome Dad following his divorce from Katie Holmes. Although he hasn’t seen his youngest daughter very often since the split, he’s made their time together memorable with spectacular trips, deluxe accommodations and just about every indulgence a little girl could want.
The other implication is that he’s playing a little dirty pool, creating a haven so spectacular that Suri would be willing to give up her low-key New York life with her mom if he were to try changing the custody arrangements.
If true, that would be just too loathsome for words. Divorce is hard enough on a child without a noncustodial parent trying to play the bribery card. And it would be all kinds of unfair to Suri to take her out of her familiar home, school and friends and plant her in an isolated environment away from her mother.
Fortunately, this appears to be all a stir-the-pot fabrication by the tabloids. GossipCop spoke to a rep for Tom, who says the entire Hawaiian real-estate story is totally bogus.
So what do you think? Would Tom really try a tactic like this?
