It’s a Boy! Elizabeth Banks Welcomes Her Second Son

Elizabeth Banks.

Oh boy, oh boy! It’s double the fun and double the diapers for Elizabeth Banks, who just announced the birth of her second son.

On her website, the actress just announced, “As 2012 winds down and Thanksgiving approaches, I have much for which to be thankful – personal, professional and Presidential. However, nothing can match the joy and excitement my husband and I felt when we recently welcomed our second son, Magnus Mitchell Handelman.”

Elizabeth and her husband, Max Handelman, have a 20-month-old son, Felix, “thus commencing a decade or more of close hand-to-hand combat.”

The Hunger Games star has something in common with fellow celeb moms Giuliana Rancic and Nicole Kidman: Both her children were born via gestational surrogate.

In gestational surrogacy, the parents’ own embryos are implanted in the uterus of their chosen surrogate. It’s an option parents can use if the mother has trouble conceiving through IVF or if her age or medical condition would make pregnancy risky.

Elizabeth’s blog post thanks her family and friends, as well as the surrogacy center that matched them with the surrogate. “This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime.”

Now, she turns her attention to her new role as the mother of a newborn and a toddler – and all the fun, sleeplessness and messy diapers that entails.

Congratulations to the happy parents and big brother!
