Happy Earth Day! How are you celebrating today? I’m taking my kids outside to enjoy the day and to plant our seeds to start our vegetable and herb garden for the summer.
And just like I’m celebrating the day, there are several “green” celebrity moms-to-be that will celebrating as well. These environmental stars practice their eco-friendly values every day, not just on Earth Day.
Jessica Alba Jessica’s daughter Honor, now 2½, was brought home from the hospital to an eco-friendly nursery. Jessica’s also said: “I drive a Prius and I try to recycle as much as I can. I bought a house, and I’m doing all eco-renovations.”
Marion Cotillard Marion has always been an active environmentalist. “Ten years ago my mind-set wasn’t really normal for most people. I sounded like a crazy person talking about the environment…People saw me as a hippie who wanted to make my own cheese and live with animals in a house without electricity.” I personally think that’s cool, not crazy!
Emily Deschanel Emily has been a well-known animal activist for years. She even won the Humane Society of the United States’ Humane Advocate Award in 2010!
Alyssa Milano Alyssa raised over $90,000 for Charity: Water in 2010.
Pink Known to be an avid vegetarian, she also stands up for animal rights. She has posed for PETA, appeared in a anti-fur PSA, and stood in the front line of boycotting Australian wool.
Natalie Portman A vegan, though she admits that she sometimes goes back to being a vegetarian. She has said that she won’t let her baby touch anything that has come from an animal; not meat or fur.
In 2008, she launched her own vegan footwear line. She was the celebrity judge in 2008 for Project Runway’s “eco-friendly creations” challenge and has even guest starred on Top Chef to help judge the meatless challenge! On Top Chef! She even wears eco-friendly clothes during awards season, and once wore a $49.95 dress to a Vanity Fair party…I like her style!
Alicia Silverstone Expecting a baby in just a few months, Alicia is one of the most outspoken green actors around. She has posed for PETA, is launching her own line of eco-friendly makeup brushes and even made sure her photo shoot for Vogue was green earlier this month. She also released her first cookbook, The Kind Diet, which is printed on recycled pages with soy-based ink.
But it doesn’t end there! On her blog The Kind Life, she shares her vegan lifestyle and plans about continuing to eat a vegan diet while breastfeeding her baby. She also wears secondhand maternity clothes, and to stay fit, goes to prenatal yoga classes.
I bet that all these babies-to-be will follow in their mommies footsteps and also be committed to making the world a better place!
