Jane Lynch & Laura Embry: How They Met, How They Fell In Love & How Jane Will Be The Best Step-Mom Ever

Glee’s Jane Lynch and her girlfriend Lara Embry were married this past Monday at the Blue Heron Restaurant in Sunderland, Mass.

Most of us know about Jane, but there are few facts out there about Laura. The couple’s wedding announcement in today’s New York Times lets us know just who this woman is and offers a glimpse inside the pair’s relationship.

Laura has a daughter, Haden, now 8, and an adoptive daughter, Chase, 10. She is also one smart lady. Graduating from Smith college, she also has a master’s degree in philosophy from Columbia and a master’s in psychology and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Washington in Seattle. That’s a lot of studying! She practices clinical psychology at the Carter Psychology Center in Sarasota, Fla.

As to how the couple met, it was a fan moment. Laura asked to have her picture taken with Kane at a fundraising event, so they have a photograph of the romantic sparks that’s fit for framing.

They hit it off immediately, despite the difference between Jane’s Hollywood lifestyle and Laura’s more academic one. “I knew of her work, but not extensively. I was basically ignorant of it,” says Laura.

The couple carried on a long distance relationship from the time they met and realized how much they have in common. “We are both fascinated by emotional experience and are essentially hopeful people, but that temperamentally we express it differently,” Laura continues. “I tend to be more calm and reserved, and Jane is not. She’s expressive and exuberant and gregarious.”

Jane thinks it’s their differences that make it work. “Lara’s very patient,” she says. “I move fast. I’m very impulsive, and we kind of process things at a different pace. So we’ve both had to step up in that area. I’ve had to slow down, and she had to get a move on.”

Getting to know Haden has been a highlight for Jane. “I’m almost 50, and I thought that possibility was behind me, so this is a real delight.”

Haden is one lucky girl. When Jane was working on the Madonna episode for Glee, she taught Haden the moves. “Back in December, when Jane started learning the whole ‘Vogue’ thing from ‘Glee,’ ” Laura recounts, “she was showing it to Haden, and they would practice it together and laugh and sing — and they still do that. They break out in song and dance spontaneously.”

Jane sounds like she’s going to be an amazing step parent. She busted a move with Haden at the wedding ceremony , showing off the “Vogue” dance for everyone. During her vows, Jane promised “to be the very best parent I can be,” as well as “to do my best to get her ‘iCarly’ tickets.”

Congrats to this happy couple!
