Jennie Garth Opens Up About Her Divorce: "I Didn't Want It to Happen"

Jennie Garth opens up about a painful time.

Jennie Garth is finally ready to talk about her divorce from husband Peter Facinelli – and the first thing she wants to make clear is that the split was initiated by him.

“I tried everything I could to save our marriage. I was very resistant,” she tells People in an exclusive interview. “I didn’t want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it.”

But she points to his busy work schedule as a major factor in the deterioration of their relationship. Peter’s roles in the Twilight series and Nurse Jackie meant he had to spend most of his time on the East Coast, away from his wife and three daughters.

“He would do everything he could to fly back on the weekend,” Jennie says. “[But] it took a real toll on our marriage.”

One of the most stressful parts of their split, she says, was having to keep the truth from Luca, 14, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5.

“I would take the girls to school, then go back and get into bed and stay there until it was time to pick them up from school,” she explains. “I had to pretend everything was fine.”

Now she’s moving on slowly, moving to a farm outside L.A. to give herself and the girls some space and a slower pace of life. But Jennie still calls her ex part of her family, and admits, “I don’t think I’ll ever give up on him.”

Wishing her only the best in this trying time.
