Every year the “Dancing with the Stars” semifinalists discuss the things that made and shaped their lives, and tonight frontrunner Jennifer Grey discussed the fatal car accident two decades ago that really shaped her life going forward. In case you don’t remember the details of the accident, the discussion of which brought the gorgeous 50-year-old mom to tears, here are the details.
On Aug. 5, 1987, Grey and Broderick, her then-boyfriend, were on vacation in Northern Ireland. They were driving on a country road in Enniskillen when Broderick, who was at the wheel, swerved into the wrong lane.
The car struck the vehicle driven by 30-year-old Anna Gallagher. She and her passenger, her 63-year-old mother, Margaret Doherty, were killed.
Broderick landed in the hospital for four weeks; Grey’s injuries were less serious. Afterward Broderick, who had no memory of the accident, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, though he was convicted on a lesser charge that carried a $175 fine.
Broderick met up with the family of the women he killed earlier this decade. He had sent them a note expressing his sorrow, but they called the verdict at the time a “travesty of justice.”
