Jennifer Hudson had the unthinkable happen. Her mother, brother and nephew were brutally murdered in 2008 by her sister’s estranged husband William Balfour.
It has taken Jennifer, understandably, a bit of time before she was ready to discuss publically the dramatic events that took place that day, but she has opened up to VH-1 in the episode “Behind the Music: Jennifer Hudson.”
At first she relied on her faith saying, “I prayed when I’d get up in the morning and prayed before I laid down at night. If I didn’t I’d wake up depressed… the day wouldn’t go right,” Jennifer said. “For almost two weeks straight… [I was] inside one room with just family and friends coming in and out. I was pretty much secluded from everything that was going on.”
But now she finds comfort also in her young son 11-month-old David saying, “[My son] reminds me of my nephew,.” And she looks to the memories of her mom as a strong influence on her parenting. “In so many ways I channel her because she was such a great mom. [Little David] makes me feel like the most special person on earth. I want him to get the same love and the same upbringing my mother gave us.”
