Of course, Jessica Alba looks ah-MAY-zing all dressed up for a red-carpet event, as she was during the gala at the Met last week. For that matter, most people would say she looks incredible at all other times, too.
But, hard as it is to believe, she never used to think of herself that way. She confesses in her latest blog for iVillage that before she had children, “I was super-critical of my looks and worried more about inevitable changes to my body. I couldn’t even say the word ‘sexy’ to describe myself without feeling funny and awkward.”
That all changed when her beautiful daughters, Honor and Haven, entered her life. For one thing, Jessica says she doesn’t stress about her looks, even though she never got back to her pre-baby weight and shape. “I feel completely comfortable in my skin and my idea of perfection has changed,” she says. “I don’t really care about my body image anymore, because it just doesn’t matter now that I have children.”
She thinks of herself in a new way in another sense, too. That word she was so hesitant to use? Not so much anymore.
“Having babies helped me embrace my sexuality,” Jessica declares. “[O]nce I experienced how incredible and amazing it was to create a life, it was empowering.”
And really, that’s what it’s all about – as any relationship expert will tell you, sexiness starts with confidence. Even when you’re sporting the remnants of baby belly or haven’t had time to get to the salon for a trim because you’ve been driving the kids to soccer practice all month, you can still feel like, well, Jessica Alba, as long as you feel good about who you are as a person.
“[F]or me, feeling sexy is all about this type of comfort, confidence and true happiness,” she concludes.
And that something we moms should always strive for!
