When Jessica Alba was developing products for her eco-friendly line, The Honest Company, she wanted to make sure that the items were not only safe, but also truly practical.
In her blog for iVillage, the actress/entrepreneur explains that when she was first looking for natural baby products for her older daughter, Honor, “it was confusing to filter through the clutter of what was really eco-friendly, what the different green claims meant, if it applied to the packaging or the ingredients inside.”
Tired of buying her assortment of nontoxic products from 10 different manufacturers, she decided to found Honest to give parents like herself an affordable one-stop-shopping alternative. To top it off, she wanted to make the items attractive as well. “What can I say – I’m a modern, colorful person and I like beautiful things!” she says.
Three years later, her company was born. And to show that Honest products are not only safe but effective, Jessica says she tests them on her own daughters!
“Now I have a shampoo and conditioner that work on Honor’s fine, curly hair,” she announces. “And I have adorable diapers for Haven (one of my favorite designs is the skull and crossbones) and they never leak,” unlike other natural diapers that tend to be flimsy.
With the increasing public interest in making homes healthier, Jessica’s company is not only a sound idea for families, but also likely to help keep her bank account as green as her home.
