Jessica Simpson to Star in Her Own Sitcom!

DVR alert!

The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Jessica Simpson has inked a deal to star in her own NBC comedy.

Co-produced by Universal Television and Electus (which produces Fashion Star), the scripted comedy will draw on Jessica’s real-life challenges as a celebrity,  fashion-empire leader and new mother.

“I am so excited to work with NBC and Ben [Electus chairman Silverman] again, this time on a scripted comedy,” Jessica said in a statement. “I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that happen in my life — so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing!”

This will be Jessica’s second attempt at sitcom stardom. Back in 2004, she made a pilot called Jessica, about a pop star launching a new career as a TV news anchor, but it never reached the series stage.

No word yet on when production will begin, but it’s a pretty safe bet that it won’t be until after Jessica gives birth to her second child, due in a few months.

Now for the big question: Will there be a storyline about Jessica’s character trying to lose the baby weight with the help of a certain diet plan?

Just asking.
