Steven Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant who swore at passengers, quit, grabbed some beers, and slid out of the plane, has support from his mother. Diane, a former flight attendant who has been battling lung cancer has viewed first-hand how much stress her son is under and can see where he was coming from.
“Nobody should be abusing anybody, and I understand why he snapped,” she told the New York Post. “I would have snapped, too. In fact, I probably would have snapped more.”
Other family members weren’t so understanding.
Steven’s ex-wife is shocked. Cynthia Neithamer told the Post her ex “has been a fantastic and devoted flight attendant. I’m just really surprised [at what he did] because he really loves his job.”
Neithamer’s grandfather Harry is basically blaming the passenger. “That passenger must be a [expletive], just a pure [expletive], because nobody else could get him wound up like that.” he said.
While Steve’s family may be questioning his motives, he’s been called a “folk hero” by many for quitting his job in an out-there way, hitting a nerve for those who just want to tell their boss to shove it. The airline however, is upset because his actions created a safety risk.
