Jill Vandenberg Curtis at Tony Curtis' Side as He Passed AwayEmma Brady
Jill Vandenberg Curtis was at the side of Tony Curtis as he passed away yesterday in Las Vegas. Curtis reportedly died of a cardiac arrest while in bed with his wife at his home in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.
Jill Vandenberg Curtis was the actor’s sixth wife- following his marriages to Janet Leigh, Christine Kaufmann, Leslie Allen, Andria Savio, and Lisa Deutsch. The couple met at a restaurant in 1993 and subsequently married in 1998. They remained married until his death on September 29, 2010.
While there was a significant age gap between Tony Curtis and his wife (42 years), she remaining by his side through his ongoing health difficulties with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Tony Curtis said of the age difference, “The age gap doesn’t bother us. We laugh a lot. My body is functioning and everything is good.”
The actor’s daughter Jamie Lee Curtis released a statement following his death saying, “My father leaves behind a legacy of great performances in movies and in his paintings and assemblages. He leaves behind children and their families who loved him and respected him and a wife and in laws who were devoted to him. He also leaves behind fans all over the world. He will be greatly missed.”
