Cindy McCain, the wife of 2008 Republican presidential nominee and gay marriage opponent John McCain, and their daughter Meghan have posed for NOH8, a celebrity photo campaign to overturn California’s ban on gay marriage.
According to the NOH8 website, Cindy McCain contacted organizers of the campaign and offered to pose for the photo.
John McCain’s office said in a statement that the Arizona senator respects the views of members of his family but remains opposed to gay marriage.
Meghan, who also posed for a photo, has been outspoken in her support for gay rights. “I couldn’t be more proud of my mother for posing for the NOH8 campaign,” she said in a Twitter message. “I think more Republicans need to start taking a stand for equality.”
