After three years of post-divorce blame, accusations and bitterness, the war between Jon and Kate Gosselin – one of the most famous feuds in reality-TV history – seems to be coming to a close.
In the biggest olive-branch gesture yet, Jon gives an interview to People this week in which he acknowledges his part in their marriage troubles – and even apologizes for the way he’s acted!
Referring to his post-divorce playboy ways, he says, “I am sorry, because I did stuff I wouldn’t want done to me.”
He adds that his “passive-aggressive” actions and refusal to communicate with his wife helped lead to their split.
Best – and perhaps most surprising of all – is what he has to say about Kate, who carried on their TLC show without him for a short time, and with whom he shares custody of their eight children.
“I’ll call [Kate] up and say, ‘Mady’s sick. What do I do?’ And she’ll tell me,” he says. “She’s a great mom. We just have different parenting styles.”
They also have different life goals. While Kate has pursued other TV projects (including her famous appearance on Dancing With the Stars) and blogs for the Coupon Cabin website, Jon has stayed out of the spotlight, taking on a new job in the sales and promotion department of Gameface Intl. Still, he allows that he might go back to TV if the right opportunity came along. “I don’t want [my kids] thinking I take every show just to make a buck.”
This truce makes for great headlines – but more importantly, it will mean the world to their twin daughters, Cara and Mady, and 8-year-old sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah. Kids are the ones who suffer most in a divorce, and the best gift their parents could give them is a peaceful and respect-filled relationship.
What do you think? Have the Gosselins buried the hatchet for good? Was Jon’s apology enough?
