Jason Reitman met Michele Lee when they co-wrote short comedy film Consent in 2004. The couple married shortly after that and then two years after they married, Jason and Michele welcomed their daughter Josie who is just five. There is never a “good” time to get a divorce. But according to divorce experts, at DivorceMagazine, putting off divorce until a child is school age is a good thing for children from a developmental standpoint:
“If you can delay your divorce until your youngest child enters school and seems to be adjusting well, your decision will be easier on him. He’ll have an interesting world outside your home and a school structure that supports activities and friendships that will keep him developmentally on target.”
TMZ obtained the divorce papers Reitman filed last week in L.A. Superior Court. Jason Reitman is most famous for directing Juno. The movie was the break-out hit of 2007, written by stripper-turned-writer Diablo Cody and starring Ellen Page as the pregnant teen. Reitman was nominated for Best Director at the 2007 Academy Awards, and Cody won an Oscar for the screenplay that year.
Jason Reitman had some heady success in 2007 and 2009, and while that is good for careers, explosive fame can be tough on a marriage. No word yet on any pre-nup but I hope for their daughter’s sake the process is smooth.
Jason Reitman is the son of successful Hollywood director Ivan Reitman of Ghostbusters, Stripes and many other hits.
