Like most famous parents, Kate Gosselin works hard to guard her eight children’s privacy (when she’s not letting reality-TV camera crews into her home, that is – but that’s another story). To that end, she doesn’t let any of them go online, and although older twin daughters Cara and Mady have cell phones, they have to follow a strict list of rules. They can’t use their phones to surf the web, and Kate has to approve everyone on their friends list.
But now it seems that either someone’s been impersonating one of her children online…or else there’s a sly young Gosselin who’s been going behind Mom’s back!
On Sunday, one of Kate’s Twitter followers asked, “do either of the twins have twitters? just saw an account of caras but i wasn’t sure if it was a fake.”
Kate quickly fired back, “none have twitters/no way! So it’s a fake!”
But is it?
The account for @Cara_Gosselin_ has been active for more than a year, and has 189 followers. “Cara” tweets about such typical tween interests as listening to Taylor Swift and Adele, watching Pretty Little Liars and “eat[ing] nutella out of the jar” with Mady. The tweeter also includes family pictures.
But there are a few clues that could indicate the tweeter’s a phony. “Cara” mentions sister Mady often, but sometimes she misspells it “Maddy.” The tweets rarely talk about her other six siblings – and what 11-year-old wouldn’t gripe about a rowdy brother or a snoopy little sister? And though most of the tweets are in tweenspeak, a couple of them have the ring of a faker trying to put words in someone else’s mouth. For example: “Every night I watch my mom on DWTS and I wonder when she’ll come back home. I miss you mommy :(”
Kate tweeted several more denials to her followers over the weekend: “FYI: NONE of my kids have twitter, FB or anything internet related…My ONLY forms of ‘social media’ r this twitter & kateplusmy8.com.”
If Cara really isn’t the one with the account, then there’s either a fangirl tween out there with waaayy too much time on her hands…or worse, a creepy adult who gets his kicks out of impersonating celebrity kids – perhaps as a way to meet children online. Talk about a mom’s worst nightmare!
Either way, it’s time to put an end to it. Contact the Twitter administrators ASAP, Kate!
