The news broke this morning that Prince William has finally popped the question to his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton. Although she’s been in the royal inner circle for quite some time, she remains a relatively unknown figure to those of us across the pond.
The couple have been dating for years since meeting in college. Having weathered a series of breakups and makeups all under the constant scrutiny of the worldwide media, the low profile Kate Middleton has finally gotten the Prince to put a ring on it!
Who is the future Princes that captured Prince William’s heart?
Family. Kate Middleton is the daughter of Carole and Michael Middleton. She is the oldest of the couple’s three children. Kate has two siblings – sister Philippa “Pippa” Charlotte and brother James William. Her parents founded their own company, Party Pieces, which sells party supplies and decorations
Student. Kate Middleton famously met her future husband at the University of St. Andrews. Prior to St. Andrews she attended St. Andrew’s School in Pangbourne, Berkshire and Marlborough College in Wiltshire.
On-Again/Off-Again Girlfriend. Kate and Prince William started dating shortly after meeting in college in 2001. The very photogenic couple was seen at a variety of public events throughout the years despite ongoing speculation from the press that they were on the outs. The future marrieds called it quits in 2007, but the duo remained ‘good friends’. The couple reunited in 2008.
Fashion Icon. Kate Middleton is walking in Princess Diana’s famous footsteps becoming a fashion icon in the worldwide press. She has been featured on numerous best dressed lists including both People magazine’s best dressed lists in 2007 and 2010.
Working Gal. The future princess has busily been building her career throughout her relationship with Prince William. She started her working life by becoming an assistant accessories buyer with the clothing store Jigsaw in 2006. In late 2007, Middleton left the job to follow her dream of becoming a professional photographer.
Future Princess. Kate Middleton took the royal leap in October 2010 when she accepted Prince William’s proposal during a 10-day trip to the Lewa Wildlife Conservance in Kenya. The couple plan to marry in the spring or summer of 2011.
