Seriously people, don’t we have bigger battles to fight? But apparently not. There was a war launched this week against Katy Perry. Why? She made quite a stir with parents across the land for her costume choice for her upcoming Sesame Street guest spot.
The uber-popular singer did a duet of “Hot and Cold” with Elmo, changing the words for the pre-school set. It’s a catchy and cheery song and with the alternative lyrics, it is a perfect take on playground politics. It’s a positive song and the video is an upbeat, fun and entertaining for kids and parents alike. But the song won’t be airing and has been cut from the New Year’s Eve program. Why? One reason. Her boobs.
The outfit she wore for the video proved to be too risqué for the romper room set, or at least their parents. The song aired on YouTube and has about a million views and thousands of comments since it was uploaded on Monday. Seeing Perry and her cleavage caused some parents to get their panties in a bunch and they complained to the producers of the show. Wanting to keep all their parents happy, no matter who prudish, they have cut the video from the show. Reading the comments there were many valid points on why the video should still run. Here are four highlights:
“if your kid is saying things like: boobs!..(i read it on other comments) it’s because of the family not because of Katy!I mean the family is the one who educate the kids!No one else is responsible of that!”
“I have a four year old and I don’t see anything wrong with her outfit! She is a woman for Christ sake and from what I know she is supposed to have breast. And if you pay attention, her outfit looks JUST LIKE TINKERBELLS!” And a reader replied to this comment saying, “The cut is the same, of course, but Tinkerbell has_ a higher neckline. Oh, and she’s not real.”
“I saw Maria’s cleavage when I was_ three and I turned out OK.”
“And for gods sake people, breasts will not_ poison our children’s minds. There boobs not atomic radiation. Kids see this and will not go crazy or become pedophiles. Children will see cleavage at some point before they even turn ten. You want to help the youth, fight drugs, alcohol and tobacco, not Katy Perry.”
Do you agree? Is her outfit okay or too racy? And you can see for yourself! The video is below.
