  • NAILED: Kate Hudson

    NAILED: Kate Hudson

After nabbing a part in Cameron’s Crowe’s film Almost Famous, Goldie Hawn’s daughter proved she had Mom’s acting chops and has been churning out rom-coms like You, Me and Dupree and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days ever since.

  • FAILED: Cameron Douglas

    FAILED: Cameron Douglas

Son of legendary leading man Michael Douglas and grandson of actor Kirk Douglas, the third generation of the Douglas acting dynasty fell short. After years of drug abuse and addiction, Cameron ultimately landed in prison where he’s currently serving an extended sentence.

  • NAILED: Miley Cyrus

    NAILED: Miley Cyrus

Country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus’ daughter proved her acting/singing capabilities with her meteoric rise to fame as alter ego Hannah Montana. With the release of her latest CD and turns in feature films, she’s seamlessly making the transition from teeny bopper queen to adult celebrity actress.

  • FAILED: Redmond ONeal

    FAILED: Redmond ONeal

Son of Charlie’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett and actor Ryan O’Neal (who has a drug-fueled past of his own), Redmond struggled with drugs as a teen and is currently at a Pasadena sober living facility where he’s undergoing court-ordered drug rehab.

  • NAILED: Gwyneth Paltrow

    NAILED: Gwyneth Paltrow

The Oscar-winning daughter of actress Blythe Danner and late director Bruce Paltrow has Hollywood blood coursing through her veins. Sure, growing up with family friends like Steven Spielberg helped get her a leg up in the business, but winning an Oscar was proof her talent extended far beyond trailing her parents’ reputations.

  • FAILED: Charlie Sheen

    FAILED: Charlie Sheen

Son of brilliant character actor Martin Sheen, the younger Sheen has battled his fair share of drug and alcohol abuse. Professionally, he solidified his celeb status in films like Wall Street and Platoon and hit the pinnacle of success with his popular CBS sitcom, Two and a Half Men, but his personal life has left much to be desired.

  • NAILED: Ben Stiller

    NAILED: Ben Stiller

The comedic behemoth and star of films like Something about Mary and Meet the Parents is the son of two showbiz veterans: stage and screen character actors, Jerry Stiller and Ann Meara. Stiller’s not only got the star power to draw big numbers at the box office as a leading man, but he’s also the brains and writing talent behind many of his vehicles, too.

  • FAILED: Sean Stewart

    FAILED: Sean Stewart

Rocker Rod Stewart’s son’s biggest claim to fame was conceiving and appearing on the now defunct reality show Sons of Hollywood. Other than that, Sean’s been on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab, and his last TV appearance was on the Judge Jeanine Piro show where he was being sued by a personal trainer for unpaid fees.

  • NAILED: Kiefer Sutherland

    NAILED: Kiefer Sutherland

Son of formidable screen actor Donald Sutherland, Kiefer nabbed roles in cult-film classics like The Lost Boys and Stand By Me early in his career, but he’s best known as tough-as-nails federal agent Jack Bauer on Fox series 24. Kiefer’s life isn’t scandal–free — he served time for a DUI in 2007 — but since nabbing the role of Bauer, he finally seems at peace in his role of celebrity.

  • FAILED: Mackenzie Phillips

    FAILED: Mackenzie Phillips

Daughter of singer John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas, Mackenzie started her career on the sitcom One Day at a Time, but unlike perky co-star Valerie Bertinelli, she succumbed to a world of drugs, which ultimately got her fired. Over the years she’s battled drug addiction and been in and out of rehab, and last year in her memoir, High on Arrival, she divulged that she and her father engaged in a long-term incestuous relationship, which was fueled by their competing drug addictions.

Much like the fascination of a car wreck on the highway, people will slow down to gawk at celebrity’s lives. They are in fact the new Royalty of the United States instilled with the love/hate of the country. So it makes sense to be curious about the progeny raising skills of such an exclusive club. As for me, I don’t care.

Redmond doesn’t belong on this list. You don’t say anything about him trying – successfully or unsuccessfully – to become famous, but deem that he’s “failed” because he’s struggled with addiction. That doesn’t make him a failure, that makes him human.
