If you haven’t seen the Kim Kardashian W magazine photos, you may not want to look at them while you’re at work – she’s a whole lotta naked, and yet the cover of the magazine insists that it is art. So here’s the question: If this is “art,” would you let your son or daughter look at it? And if it is art, what distinguishes Kardashian’s nude photos in this magazine from her photo shoot for Playboy not so long ago, which she now claims she regrets after being pushed into it by her mom?
Looking at the photos in W, I’ll say they’re at least skillfully photographed, but I’m not sure that translates into “art.” Based on Kardashian’s quotes in the magazine, she seems to be more concerned about playing a part to get media attention than on making great art or even making a statement about our society’s body hangups, which maybe I could understand.
“When I’m up on the table dancing, it’s for the picture,” she tells W. “Then I sit right back down. I play into the perception of me, but it’s not really me.”
I’m not saying Kardashian needs to keep her clothes on 100 percent of the time; clearly that would be a problem for her. But I do think it’s a bit ridiculous to call this thing art – it’s a way for W to sell more magazines, and in that respect, I don’t see how it’s different from Playboy.
